training times?[edit]

my armorer skill is at 86, but i can't get gin-wulm to offer me the training. i've read the book and have talked to all the other trainers, but still gin-wulm won't give me the training. is there a certain time/place that he will do the training? Lalanas 19:33, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

an update on this, it's only the trainer in the imperial city who won't give me the training option. is this my game being screwed up or has this happened with other people? Lalanas 19:40, 4 April 2007 (EDT)
Your update has me confused. Who exactly won't offer you training? --Nephele 19:44, 4 April 2007 (EDT)
Have you asked one of the advanced armourer trainers, Like Rasheda or Rohssan, about "training" so as to be referred to Gin-Wulm? The Master Trainers usually don't offer training or an option to ask them about it until you have been referred to them. --Lloegr-Cymru 19:50, 4 April 2007 (EDT)
I'm blanking on the name of the trainer in the imperial city (one of the aforementioned "R"-named trainers). i talked to somebody else and got the recommendation, so maybe i did something wrong. i really just panicked and posted before i actually tried to fix things. Lalanas 00:40, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

() Once you reach 70 in a skill, you can only get training from that skill's master trainer. And you only need to get the recommendation from one of the advanced trainers. So it doesn't sound to me like anything is being glitchy, unless I'm misunderstanding what's going on. --Nephele 01:04, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

i know, but i couldn't get the recommendation from Rohssan, only from the guy in Anvil. Lalanas 11:14, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
same problem with me. I did the quest, got the book, answered the question. Quest is complete. He offered me training. But in the dialogue, there is no training button... — Unsigned comment by 91.65.137.143 (talk) at 16:22 on 23 August 2011‎

Mystery Woman[edit]

Gin-Wulm seems to be walking around my Market District, seemingly being followed by a woman called Hermette Cisterzio. Does anyone know who this woman is? The fact that she's following Gin-Wulm may well be a conicidence, but she's not on the Wiki. I am presuming a mod added her - maybe the Bank of Cyrodil...— Unsigned comment by 87.127.79.8 (talk) at 20:05 on 4 August 2008

Ignore me - she's the banker's wife. — Unsigned comment by 87.127.79.8 (talk) at 20:23 on 4 August 2008‎
Yeah, I'd wondered about her too. I'm not quite sure why the mod added her, given that she has no impact on anything - but I guess it's just extra background. But yes - she is definitely added by the mod. –RpehTCE 16:45, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

The Armorers Challenge[edit]

I am playing the PS3 version of Oblivion and I have never seen this book for sale in The First Edition. I have checked several times on several different playthroughs, and have checked before and after taking on the training mini-quest. I have only been able to complete the quest after finding out here that there was another copy available in one of the Fighter's Guild halls. Has anyone else encountered this problem? SteVB 82.203.3.9 08:22, 21 April 2009 (EDT)

It happened to me too. I could not buy the book from him. He did have it in his inventory though, so I was able to pickpocket it. I'm playing on the PS3 as well. Strange. Wolok gro-Barok 09:44, 21 April 2009 (EDT)
I've never had the problem myself and I don't know what caused it. I just tried using the console to take my personality and mercantile to 0, losing the speechcraft game on purpose to reduce Phintias' disposition to 0... and he would still sell me the book (for double the cover price!) Just remember though, that the locations of rare books are all documented on the book page, so you should have been able to find out about the second copy by following the link on the page and going here. –RpehTCE 13:10, 21 April 2009 (EDT)
Perhaps they accidentally changed the location of the book from Phintias' merchant chest to Phintias' inventory on the PS3. Pure speculation, though! Wolok gro-Barok 18:04, 21 April 2009 (EDT)

() It's always in his personal inventory instead of in his merchant chest, on all platforms. --NepheleTalk 18:12, 21 April 2009 (EDT)

My bad, but perhaps other PS3 users can check if they have the same problem? Wolok gro-Barok 18:17, 21 April 2009 (EDT))

Owning but not Reading[edit]

Looking at Gin Wulm's script, it seems that you can pass the challenge if you have the book in your inventory even if you haven't read it. I can't test that at the moment... any chance somebody else could check it? –rpehTCE 09:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Checked. It is NOT necessary to read the book. Having it your inventory is enough to get the "right answer" option in Gin-Wulm's dialogue. Krusty 09:31, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Does that include prior readings, Krusty? The only case where I believe you can have it in your inventory and NOT have read it is if ou bought it. –Elliot(T-C) 09:58, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure if I understand the question completely, but I'll try anyway: What I did was that I took my low-level character and pickpocketed the book off Phintias. I didn't read it and just kept it in my inventory and approached Gin-Wulm. I must admit there's a tiny chance that I might have read the book somewhere without even realising it, but as it's a rare book and I try to stay away from anything that can progress the game in any way, I'll say I'm 99% sure. Rpeh, when you get the chance can you doublecheck this (just to make 100% sure) Krusty 10:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
I think that clarifies it. However, it does seem odd that you only have to have it in your inventory. –Elliot(T-C) 10:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

() Final test was to start a new character, add the book to my inventory with a console command, set the first quest stage also with a console command, move to Gin-Wulm's position and talk to him. He offered me training with no problems. So you don't even need to read the book. –rpehTCE 12:57, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

i am level 36 armorer...[edit]

I have spoken to both advanced trainers and can't learn anything else from them. They aren't recomending me to gin wum.. how do I get the recomendation??--Lady Ciriago (talk) 01:28, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

You need to be level 70 in armorer to get the recommendation. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 02:16, 13 December 2012 (GMT)
