I did. Any problems? --Krusty 17:59, 17 January 2010 (UTC))

Clothing[edit]

I'd changed this from "Floyd is one of the few NPCs to have a randomly chosen wardrobe. The game engine chooses between five middle-class shirts, three middle-class pairs of pants and five middle-class pairs of shoes" to "Floyd is one of the few NPCs to have his primary attire selected at random, his clothes being picked from leveled lists when he is loaded rather than his inventory containing specific items" since I thought that the original was rather obtuse and imprecise, though my own edit was reverted for the same reason. Although my own wording could no doubt be improved, I'm not sure that simply reverting it back to the original was the best way ahead. I guess what's clearest depends on where the reader's standing (i.e. "the game engine chooses" sounded a bit of a strange way of describing a levelled list, and a large number of NPCs actually use these to select their clothing: it's just that most of them wear armour as their main attire). Thoughts, anyone? --Vometia 11:15, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

I reverted the edit because it sounded confusing (Floyd is loaded?) and because the original information was pulled directly from the CS by Nephele. Sometimes, I think a simple explanation is the way to go, even though I can agree with the term "game engine" and why it should be changed. --Krusty 11:19, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
I think that was one of my disagreements with the original text: I was wondering if he'd had a scripted clothes change (something I'd tried myself, but abandoned when I decided it was to CPU-heavy and likely to result in NPCs wandering about in their underpants) but I'll accept that may not be the point of view of the average reader; similarly that quite a lot of NPCs, even regular ones, use this method of choosing their inventory, but it's one of those tricky cases where a drive to be precise is at risk of having the opposite effect, and I confess to having an inability to write in the most straightforward manner as this paragraph is probably already proving. But hopefully somebody else can take a crack at it now that I've raised the issue, assuming anybody else is as bothered by it as I am anyway! --Vometia 11:34, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Random Clothing[edit]

We could use some testing on when Floyd's outfit (and others with leveled lists) gets chosen. TAO added "upon entry by the player of any cell that he is in." and I don't believe that's correct - it would mean you could go into his house, come out again and see him wearing a different outfit, and that doesn't happen. I think it's more likely that the clothes change when the player levels up or possibly when the cell he's in resets. rpeh •TCE 14:32, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Hmm. In that case how about "Upon first entry by the player of his current cell. This determines his clothing until the next cell reset (3 days, 1 hour) or level increase"?--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 14:51, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
No, it needs testing as I said. My thoughts on when it might happen were speculative, not declarative. rpeh •TCE 15:18, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Ah. Well in twelve to thirteen hours I'll TESt this in game :D. In the meantime what do you think based on the CS?--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 15:21, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
The CS doesn't help - it's all game mechanics, and I've already told you what I think. rpeh •TCE 15:24, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh. I thought that was just preliminary thoughts... Sorry about that.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 15:30, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
