Fences[edit]

I'd like to see something about the Fences here. I have been working through the guild quests and have noticed that there is usually only one fence available at a time. Also, sometimes they are not available at all... I was between Ahdarji's Heirloom and Misdirection and could not find a fence even with "Independent Thievery" as my active quest; it would only point me to Skrivva. I had to start and finish Misdir to open the fence in Bravil.(the one that isn't Skrivva) An outline of the fences and when they are available would be a great addition to this page. It's the only way to get rid of stolen stuff, after all.--Ravius 01:47, 1 February 2007 (EST)

  • Only way apart from glitching the stolen flag off or outright dumping your loot somewhere you mean. Right? ;D Only way to SELL stolen stuff is what I presume you ment to say. It would be great if someone could figure out how to clear the stolen flag on stuff without picking it up first.(Don't give me "The Console fixes everything". It's useless for 360 gamers.)
I'm aware of glitching the stolen flag off of certain items or getting a fence to buy it and rebuy it but what if for some items that cost 0 gold and are difficult or impossibly to obtain without stealing (certain keys for example) is there any way to clear the flag off of those items?
  • Skrivva is not a Fence, nor are any of the bosses. Talk to Ongar in Bruma for an easy fence. He is available right after joining the guild.

Dunbarrow Cove Fence[edit]

Actually, on one charcter I joined the thieve's guild early on and then went to do other stuff. Just to get money, I raided Castle Anvil and took all of the Countess's valuable jewelry. Contrary to the article, when I sold the loot to my fence the 'Independent Theievery' quest updated and told me to see Armand for my contract. I had not dropped by Ongar's house even to say 'Hi;' so that had to have been what did it.

To corrobroate, I've sold stolen items to Manheim long before joining the Thieves' Guild, and was able to begin doing special jobs without having met Ongar, let alone fenced my wares to him. —Dark Spark 14:31, 7 June 2008 (EDT)

Edit Reference?[edit]

I noticed in onw part of this article, where it features telekinesis, it makes a reference as to how to do it on the PC only, not the XBox or the PS3, specifically: "(target the object, use cursor and left/right mouse to shift the objects position)". Could we amend this and either remove it or put in a reference to the Controls page or put in the actual controls? Thanks Loads, Your best Buddy, Logiccube 16:34, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

Good point. I opted to remove the description entirely and just provide a link to the Telekinesis page: readers who need instructions on how to use Telekinesis are likely to want more than a minimal summary. And I've revamped the Telekinesis page, too, while I was at it, so the instructions there now make use of the Controls page and avoid being platform-specific. --NepheleTalk 14:57, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

Dropping Stolen Items[edit]

Just recently I've noticed that if caught with stolen items, I can resist Arrest then quickly drop the stolen items, yield, pay gold then go back to the place where I dropped the items and pick them back up. It still shows up stolen in my inventory but no guards will pursue me. This might be helpful hint to others and I would like to see it on this page somewhere but I don't know where to put it.--Kasabian 23:36, 21 June 2008 (EDT)

To be honest I think it's pretty obvious. If you don't have an item in your possession then the guards can't confiscate it. –RpehTCE 04:03, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

Does the stuff respawn?[edit]

When I steal something from a store or house will it evenually respawn? I don't want it to look bare. — Unsigned comment by 72.139.121.112 (talk) on 12 October 2008

Typically, no. It's something that has annoyed me too - the shopkeepers never replenish their wares. Foodstuffs will reappear though, which can often lead to the odd sight of a a cone of, say, apples floating in midair above a silver bowl that is no longer there. –RpehTCE 11:15, 12 October 2008 (EDT)

Where is this page?[edit]

I was looking in Hints for this page but it isnt listed. Shouldnt it be listed under Alchemy?Jplatinum16 22:08, 25 June 2009 (UTC) Jplatinum16

Done, but you should feel free to make that kind of edit for yourself. –RpehTCE 09:00, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Fighter's Guild Bravil Porter[edit]

I attempted to steal from the Bravil Fighter's Guild, and unfortunately I was caught by the annoying Porter who follows you around. Rather than yell for the guards or attack me, he simply told me to "Give that back," walked up to me, and suddenly at the top of my screen all the stolen items were being removed from my inventory, one by one. Is this a normal response in certain situations? If so, a list of where this occurs could be nice, as to avoid bounties for novice thieves trying to practice. Just a thought. Training sneak involves sneaking near people undetected. Stealing items will not give you any experience whatsoever. There are many locations where you can easily auto-walk into a corner and gain experience. — Unsigned comment by 71.65.217.227 (talk) at 21:39 on 7 January 2011 (UTC)
How is that relevant to the question? The year-old question is asking about getting caught stealing, not training sneak. --Brf 21:39, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
I think I figured it out (more than a year later, no less XD). If an NPC or Faction (like the Fighter's Guild) has a high enough, or at least decent enough, reputation with the player, they won't necessarily call the guards when you take things. It could also be about the worth of the stolen good. For example, getting caught stealing a plate worth only 2 gold may only have all your stolen items taken away, regardless of the other items' worth. Get caught stealing an expensive item, and then the bounty goes up. These are just theories, however. If anyone can confirm that'd be great. (98.246.86.122 04:08, 6 August 2011 (UTC))

Where[edit]

where are the best and easiest places to steal from

I suggest the Skingrad Wine Cellar. The wine there is expensive, and once you get in, it's hard to be spotted. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 07:48, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Any store will yield ample loot, but their wares will not restock. You can still buy from the merchant, but will not be able to steal from that store again. Really stores are the only good places to steal. Any other house or castle will have a few rings tops, but that is it.
