This page is rather sparse, considering Amusei's variable career during that Thieves Guild quests.

Thieves guild hideout

I'm on the last quest and i still haven't heard of a thieves guild hideout, although i know that they get a guild hall later but i still haven't got there, just wanted to know where amusei is when hes not doing delivering quests. and did u list his initial location? i didn't read anything, like is he anywhere to be found before finding the thieves guild? or does the game simply add him during the quest. --Piercethetruth 05:26, 12 November 2007 (EST)

The House of Dareloth becomes the Thieves Guild Hideout, once you complete the quest line. IWon'tFightUndead 06:42, 12 November 2007 (EST)
Before finding the Thieves Guild he lives at the Waterfront. After you complete the first quest he'll move out(presumably to the Leyawiin Castle dungeon). His bed which is next to Puny Ancus' bed will also go missing. Once he joins the Thieves Guild(after Lost Hitories of Tamriel) he moves back to the Waterfront(with his bed). -- 07:14, 12 November 2007 (EST)

Always Sneaking About

Amusei has surprised me quite a few times. I'll be running down the fog-covered roads around the IC or Leyawiin, and he'll be sneaking his way to the next city. I also see him sneaking behind the door of the Leyawiin prison. Im not sure if theres some kind of glitch involved, as he is always sneaking to random places, but i have never once seen him at the hideout (which i use as my home base). Anyone else encounter him on the roads? Its pretty funny to come up to a shadowy figure and have my bow ready to strike, and then i recognize the figure's walk and realize its my old friend Amusei... — Unsigned comment by (talk)

Yes, I've seen him sneaking in any number of unusual places as well, though most often, as you mention, stuck behind the door of the prison. Lol I used the console to teleport to him and he was just sneaking on a road. I followed him and then all of a sudden he was mauled by a bear. Onlt then he got up and ran ^^. --Ruff Touch
I just tried to start the Thieve's Guild questline, but it wont let me, ever since I got arrested for killing the captain of the guard for the Dark Brotherhood. Amusei is just stuck behind the door and won't go to the Garden of Dareloth. Does anyone know a way to fix this for the Xbox 360? — Unsigned comment by (talk) on 29 September 2009
Try being absent from Leyawiin and the Imperial City for a few in-game days. Somewhere the position of Amusei should be set correctly again. If you return to the Garden of Dareloth, Amusei is probably back again. Pathing issues like this usually only exist if the player is near (as the game handles it differently if the cell is not loaded i.e. you're away). --Timenn-<talk> 14:24, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Amusei's rank

Does Amusei have any rank in the Thieves Guild faction once he becomes a Thieves Guild member? Nifhelton 17:36, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

  • During Lost Histories, at stage 65, he's given the rank of Pickpocket.
  • At the beginning of Taking Care of Lex, both stages 0 and 10 for some reason, he's upgraded to Footpad.
  • At the beginning of Turning a Blind Eye, stage 10, he goes up to Bandit.
  • At the end of the same quest, stage 100, he goes up to Prowler.
  • At the beginning of Arrow of Extrication, stage 0, he's upgraded to Cat Burglar, then downgraded to Prowler again at stage 10.
  • At the beginning of Boots of Springheel Jak, stage 0, he's skips back up to Shadowfoot...and bumped back down to Cat Burglar at stage 10. (The game is full of redundancies, where designers changed their minds and never got rid of older code.)
  • Finally, at the beginning of The Ultimate Heist, stage 0, Amusei is bumped up to Master Thief and once again bumped back down a level to Shadowfoot at stage 10.
Those were all the references I found, but the Construction Set isn't always the easiest to work with, so it's possible that I've missed something somewhere. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 23:00, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
You missed one - at the very start of Turning a Blind Eye, stage 0, he goes up to Prowler and is then demoted to Bandit in stage 10, making for three changes during that quest. I'm not sure this is "older code" though - I'm sure there's a good reason; just not sure what it could be! –RpehTCE 04:57, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
Just a punt in the dark here, but is it to ensure that he gives you the correct dialogue when you speak to him? He seems to be being bumped to more or less the same rank as the player, so if there is some specific dialogue you get when you talk to members of the guild you outrank, it could be to prevent that dialogue from appearing in the quests in which he is involved, or when he is used to contact the player. The key would be whether Methredhel's rank is adjusted in the same manner for when she contacts the player. --Gaebrial 03:55, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
You could be right. Methredhel's rank changes even more often though, so it's hard to be sure:
  • May the Best Thief Win (stage 60) -> Pickpocket (if she hands in the diary)
  • Untaxing the Poor (stage 0 AND 10) -> Pickpocket
  • The Elven Maiden (stage 0 AND 10) -> Footpad
  • Ahdarji's Heirloom (stage 0 AND 10) -> Bandit
  • Misdirection (stage 0 AND 10) -> Bandit
  • Lost Histories (stage 0 AND 10) -> Prowler
  • Taking Care of Lex (stage 0) -> Shadowfoot
  • Taking Care of Lex (stage 10) -> Cat Burglar
  • Turning a Blind Eye (stage 0) -> Shadowfoot
  • Turning a Blind Eye (stage 10) -> Cat Burglar
  • Arrow of E (stage 0) -> Master Thief
  • Arrow of E (stage 10) -> Shadowfoot
  • Boots of SJ (stage 0 AND 10) -> Master Thief
  • Ultimate Heist (stage 0) -> Master Thief

Amusei's Strange Habits

Just reading the info page, i noticed something odd. That Amusei has an OBSESSION with Puny Ancus. Odd dont you think? I wonder what Amusei wants to do with his life...


I said on the beggar in front of amusei and he said something to the effect of: "wo ho ho, this is going to be good." Is this because he has low responsibility and a high disposition towards me while I committed a crime?Mikeyboy52 10:46, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

He (and many others) will say "Whoa ho! This is gonna be good!" if you assault another NPC in front of them and their responsibility is <50 and they have a high disposition towards you. rpeh •TCE 11:54, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Amusi wont move!

i am trying to join the theifs guild but amusei wont move from behind the door in the layawin jail. he wont meet in the garden so that i may start the first theifs guild mission. what should i do? can someone please help me! i have the game of the year edtion for ps3, im level 30 and i dont want to start a new game. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 18:35 on 26 January 2010

Use the console to warp him to yourself or another actor. You can find the console commands here
There is a fix thats slow and annoying, but you just simply use a Command Humanoid spell on him and walk/run him to the waterfront meeting spot manually. Probably takes about 30-40 mins if you can clear enemies along the way quickly as he goes for them but luckily he cant die. Once at the spot you have to wait without using the fast forward until 12 midnight and then the quest will activate once you have spoken to Armand. --nick 21:27, 06 April 2010 (GMT)

Right before the Arrow of Extrication I was doing the Whodunit? quest. After completing no matter how much I waited at the Imperial City Amusei wouldn't come. I used the player.moveto command to get to him and he was in the Summitmist Manor and couldn't get out(though the door was open and i was free to leave). Now that I think of it, I was having some trouble with quicksaving while doing Whodunit? - the game crashed and the save files appeared to be corrupt. Anyway I went outside and made a copy of him by using player.placeatme and spawned him but he didn't have his leather armor on. I had to disable the original Amusei.

Just wanted to point out that Amusei knows Glarthir during the Paranoia quest, even when he's in the Imperial City. Obviously Amusei has a history in Skingrad, which ties in to his being arrested there. — Unsigned comment by (talk) on 29 April 2010

One of the things you can talk about with him is Glarthir. He says what the people in Skingrad say during that mission. I talked to him shortly before starting the Thieve's Guild competition at the Imperial waterfront, so the game must consider him from Skingrad, as no other characters in the Imperial City knows Glarthir that I know of.— Unsigned comment by (talk) on 29 April 2010
That's because he's also part of the Skingrad Citizen faction, which grants him the topic about Glarthir even if he's currently living in the Imperial City. --S'drassa T2M 04:29, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Amusei stuck in Leyawiin after completing Turning a Blind Eye

I'm trying to do the TG quest line but I am running into a bad problem. Everything was going fine up until I thought I had finished the Turning A Blind Eye quest. I went and handed the quest item in to the Gray Fox, and I got the quest dialog telling me to wait for his further instructions, but the quest is still showing as active and not completed. Now, I know from previous experience that Amusei is supposed to come find me in the Imperial City to start the next quest, but he won't show up. I followed him all the way back to Leyawiin's jail and he just hides behind the door. All the other quests up until now have been fine. I don't know how to get the dumb lizard unstuck. Here is what I know/have tried:

  • Fenced over 1200g in stolen items
  • Handed Savilla's Stone to the Gray Fox
  • Amusei hiding behind Leyawiin jail door in a crouch; he never got stuck on other quests
  • Tried a lvl 5 command humanoid to try to drag him back, spell effectiveness at 100% and nothing happened
  • I looked through my old saves to find one before the Adarji's Ring quest but can't find one; oldest is right before starting the book quest involving Amusei
  • I don't recall ever letting Amusei out of a cell anywhere before during other quests
  • I'm on a 360 and really don't want to restart; this char is lvl 29 w/ hundreds of hours of game time.

Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, the cell door was unlocked at some point, even if you can't remember it. Amusei will only be stuck behind that door if you unlocked the cell. In any case, it shouldn't be a problem - your real problem is that the quest is not completed, and that is why Amusei stays behind the door instead of giving you the next quest. You sure you didn't talk to any beggars on your way back from the Temple of the Moths (described here)? --Krusty 22:38, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I know the glitch you are talking about as far as talking to beggars after getting the stone. Yes, I made that mistake once before. However, I simply loaded an older save, as recommended. I loaded from several quests back, from around right before starting the book quest from Skrivva. When that glitch happened the first time, Turning a Blind Eye wouldn't complete and I looked up what I had done wrong, thus the reload to fix it. I don't think that one glitch could have corrupted previous unrelated saves though, could it? I will say this; before that first time talking to a beggar, the steps to Temple of the Moths were completely in order; post glitch (after loading from a much older save mind you) the steps are out of order. The first few are OK, but when I walk up to the temple, I get the onscreen message that I found it (so therefore I had not been there before) but I don't get the quest step that says I found it and maybe I should try to talk to a monk. I did each step sequentially after that, trying to get that one step to trigger, but the only way no matter what order I do them in is to enter the crypt within the temple and come back out; then that step triggers. I tried ALL the steps in every order imaginable after the first step from Fox, and I still can't get that one to trigger at the right time. Any advice? I would love to know if there is a fix for this. I tried updating to the latest console patch, but I might downgrade to see if that helps. 04:25, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Jailor's Dialogue After Bribing Him!

Hello! Uh, when you bribe the relevant Jailor, he says something like, "Oh, 'Amusei' you say! I thought you said 'A_______'!...." Does anyone here remember that name he used? I want to say, "Amunday", but I'm not sure if that is right or not, hence why I'm here asking for it. Please help, thank you very much! Leo Star Dragon 1 11:27, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very much Krusty, not just for the answer, but for the speedy delivery of it too! That rhyme at the start I remember easily enough, it's the rest that I get forgetful about. By the way, for gratifiaction's sake, I wanted to know it so that I could name another Argonian by that name. Right now he's just another archer from the quest from Maeva the Buxom. Amusei Disappeared

I am past the Arrow of Extrication quest, and sold more then 1000g worth of stolen goods, and waiting for Amusei to bring me a message, but after waiting for 5x 24 hours in the Imperial City he didn't show. I checked if he was stuck in Leyawiin Prison, but he was not there. He is not in Skingrad Prison either. I resorted to waiting in every city for 2x 24 hours, but to no avail. Anyone got any pointers or idea's how to fix this? oh, and i play the ps3 version with expansions and patch, but i havent been to Shivering Isles, so he cannot be stuck there.. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 12:01 on 30 June 2011 (UTC)

I've never had such problems myself, but I may have an idea. Firstly though, it seems to me that he's probably just standing somewhere instead of following you, did you check the Waterfront itself to see he was there? Otherwise he's got to be some other place, but then you'd have to check all cities and roads so that wouldn't be a very helpful tip. In case you can't find him, what might help you however, is to start the next quest prematurely. I hear you can take the boots of Springheel Jak before the related quest, but you'll get a quest update saying you should return to the Gray Fox. ~ Dwarfmp 13:02, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Problems with quest?

So, i gave the Gray Fox the stone and have been waiting weeks and weeks (in game) for him to show up, and he never did. When i went to the waterfront, i found him standing on one of the begger's beds. Although when i talk to him, i get the same responses that i would with anyone else, and i get nothing about my quests updating or any new quests. Im on a 360 and this is the first problem thats occured. I've fenced more than enough items to get me through all the questlines in the TG — Unsigned comment by (talk) on 20:48 18 July 2011

You could try these... Might not work, but always worth a try.
In some rare cases when waiting for Amusei to speak to you, and he will not give you the quest prompt even if you find him, it is possible to bypass this on the console version. Simply go to the house that is next designated for the Gray Fox to be in (for example he is at Malintus Ancrus' house in Chorrol for the Arrow of Extrication) the Gray Fox may already be there waiting for you, and you will not have needed Amusei.
Sometimes the Gray Fox won't appear at Malintus Ancrus's house. Malintus Ancrus will tell you not to keep the Gray Fox waiting but he will never show up. What you need to do instead is go to Helvius Cecia's house in Bruma which is where he met with you for the Turning a Blind Eye quest.

So the problem is that your Independent Thievery quest hasn't been updated, right? So I suppose the last entry is NOT "I have fenced over 800 worth of goods..."? If it isn't, I'm not sure why it hasn't been triggered, I could only suggest to keep selling to fences in the hope it updates at one point. If you do have that entry, try waiting a while and see if Amusei comes to you (or you could save and hit him to see if he is stuck in some sort of "trance"), or wait for at least three days so the Gray Fox might move out of Malintus' house ~ Dwarfmp 21:35, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

i tried all the points (except the one about console commands..i have no idea how to do it), and none of them worked. Haha, thanks for the grammar help in my Sandbox. Make no mistake, though - I'm nowhere near finished (I didn't even write half of it myself, I took it from Amusei's current page) and most of it are notes. Some of it is even in danish! ;) Still, if you can somehow fill me in on his "regular" schedule (not any of the quest-related ones, just the completely normal schedule on the Waterfront), then I could save a lot of time and boredom following him around. Sure. OUTSIDE of quests, he:

  • Lives in Leyawiin from Untaxing The Poor through Ahdarji's Heirloom, sleeping from midnight till 6am and wandering near his bed (either in the SW-most corner of the city, or in jail)
  • Lives in Skingrad from Misdirection through Lost Histories, sleeping from midnight till 6am and wandering near his bed (either in the city behind Ambroise Canne's house, or in the cell)
  • Lives in IC from then on, sleeping from 6am till noon. In Dareloth's Basement if Ultimate Heist is completed, and outside next to Puny Ancus if it isn't. Wanders around near his Waterfront bed the rest of the time, regardless of whether Ultimate Heist is completed or not.

Oh, and just for the record: "May shadow hide you" seems to be used by Amusei only. "Shadow hide you" is the one used by all other TG members. And no, I don't have access to the CS. --Krusty 14:51, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
I think you're right: AFAICT it's intended to "personalize" him a little. S'krivva also has a unique Goodbye: "Shadow hide the hunter", and Methredel and Armand have unique ones as well, but only use them on "special" occasions. - Ali

Amusei Project

Well, you are more than welcome to start right away - but don't bother with the grammar as the text is likely to change, because: I find bugs everywhere, at least compared to the list you sent me on your talk page - and they can use some serious examination, CS vs in-game and so on. Right now, some useful information would be:
  • When exactly does he move to Leyawiin after May the Best Thief Win? What quest and what stage of the quest? Is it when you deliver the diary to Armand? Is it later? Does he travel normally or will he just "warp"?
  • For how long does he stay in the Talos Plaza District during the MTBTW quest? I waited 3 in-game days and he just kept going around.
  • It is obvious in-gamre that he doesn't move to Skingard at the beginning of the Misdirection quest. But when exactly? Will he just "warp" into prison when you get the Lost Histories quest?
  • When exactly does he escape from the prison in Leyawiin? He will never use the lockpick you give him,and if you unlock the cell door yourself he will just hide behind the door leading to the jailor. Why is that? And when does he escape in reality? What quest stage?
  • Come to think of it, I have never seen the lizard sleep - ever. Why is that?
As of now, the bug list looks like this (and I have added some more info since yesterday so we can keep it here):
  • Amusei was supposed to move to Skingrad at the beginning of the Misdirection quest and sleep on the bedroll behind Ambroise Canne'a´s house. Instead, he stays near the statue in Leyawiin but will, even before the Lost Histories quest has been initiated, say “We need to get to safety”, his final lines from the Lost Histories quest. WHY?
  • Amusei never sleeps in his bedroll in the Waterfront District because ???. (Here, I'd like to add the fact that he "tries" to lie down at 3am but seems to have problems accessing the bed)
  • Also, the bedroll in Leyawiin remains unused because of ???
  • After Lost Histories, he spends some time in Skingrad until you complete the quest. He is supposed to sleep on the bedroll behind Ambroise's house between 12am and 6am but doesn't. WHY?
  • If you unlock his Leyawiin cell door yourself, Amusei will go into sneakmode and start his escape, but will never get past the first door because (I know I mentioned this twice and the final information may belong on the quest page - still, I think a lot of people tries to free him, so we might as well get an answer.
I think that is the list of problems right now (up to Lost Histories at least). Each and every one of these questions and bugs needs answers and in-game checking. As usual with NPC work, this can not be done in the CS only because the game tends to treat the packages differently in real life. And what happens in the game should be listed in the written schedule - and any problems compared to the CS should be listed in the "Bugs" section. I'll keep on watching his behavior for the rest of the quests (I don't think there will be too many problems from now on), just to get everything written down.

Having to manually indent is too annoying and time-wastey.

All the data, i.e. "all three of the non-quest schedules" came from the CS (latest game version, no UOP or other mods, so I could see what his "official" schedules were). I took the periods ("Quest X to Quest Y") from there, and checked against my savegames (which do have UOP) to get the details like "behind Ambroise's house" (i.e. I targeted him then went through the saves and moveto'd myself to him) because the CS basically just says "somewhere in Skingrad", and I'd never have found him there otherwise. So, I know the locations are correct, and I know that he DOES sleep in them (because all those saves happened to be at night).

The saves are what I had, which are at each level, and may span multiple TG quests, so I might have mixed up the periods - but I really doubt it, especially since:

  • Lives in Leyawiin from Untaxing The Poor through Ahdarji's Heirloom
    • He leaves IC after failing to join the guild, and Untaxing is the next quest in the line.
    • He MUST be in Leyawiin through at least Ahdarji, because of the plot.
  • Lives in Skingrad from Misdirection through Lost Histories
    • We know he flees Leyawiin after Ahdarji, and Misdirection is the next quest in the line.
    • He MUST be in Skingrad through Lost Histories, again because of the plot.
  • Lives in IC from then on
    • He (yet again) has had to change towns after being arrested and rescued. The next quest in the line is Taking Care of Lex, and that's where my game was when I worked out the "life schedule", so that took seconds to check.
    • We know he never leaves IC once he joins the guild, which he now has.

So yes, I'm fairly confident that those notes are fundamentally correct. I don't think there wasn't any "mid-quest" stuff in them, but I'll check that next time I'm in the CS.

There's definitely SOMETHING odd about his sleeping: every time I wait next to his bed, when the wait ends I see him get up FROM it even though he should still be asleep, but so much "magic stuff" happens when the player waits or changes cells anyway that I haven't really dug into it. AI packages tend to take a while to actually kick in even at the best of times, and I'm probably not helping them by teleporting around to check stuff etc.

Note: Independent Thievery is so trivial that I just fence several hundred GP of goods as soon as I join the guild, and "collect" each next quest immediately, so I always have a real TG quest "active" even if I don't plan on doing it any time soon.

I found a save with Untaxing started. Amusei is in Leyawiin. Good. I disabled UOP and reloaded, and he stays there. Also Good.

I found a save with Misdirection started. Amusei is in Skingrad. Good. I disabled UOP and reloaded, and watched him start walking out of town, eventually ending up in Leyawiin. Not good. I still can't see what's wrong with his AI that's causing this, but it's pretty messy and the CS isn't very good. He definitely can't sleep in Leyawiin at this point, because his bed isn't there any more: it's in Skingrad, where it belongs.

  • okay, found it, finally - his Skingrad AI is fine UNTIL it's time to go to sleep. At which point Bethesda tells him to sleep in his LEYAWIIN bed.

I don't get the "We need to get to safety" line when I talk to him at this point, but I know why you do (the timing in your comment is very misleading). That line only appears in TG06 (Lost Histories), but is, like everything else in Oblivion, broken: Amusei will say it at ANY point in the quest, but he isn't teleported to the cell until stage 10 (when YOU recieve the quest from S'Krivva), and there are a bunch of pre-10 stages that should have been at the end of TG05 instead, because Bethesda can't get anything right. In other words, to trigger it you need to complete Misdirection, have enough fenced to be ABLE to start TG06 but not ACTUALLY start it, then talk to Amusei before S'Krivva.

At the completion of the quest, as you'd expect. And by teleporting, also as you'd expect - since he couldn't sneak his way out of a wet paper bag, let alone past Oblivion Superguards, and would you really want him to try at the risk of breaking the entire quest line? "Radiant" AI literally can't walk someone across an empty room reliably. Any time an NPC does something "clever", it's By Magic.

No. "If you unlock his Leyawiin cell door yourself, Amusei will go into sneakmode". The End. As noted above, if he actually tried to escape "for real", he'd never manage it. Although he's unkillable and would eventually get teleported out, having to deal with random Bounty occurrences on plot-critical characters ist just bad.

He actually gets his EQ upgrades (Leather Armor and Steel Shortsword) NOW, but he'll have lost them again by the next time you see him because he'll be in jail. Again.  :P

  • Amusei never sleeps in his bedroll in the Waterfront District because ???. (Here, I'd like to add the fact that he "tries" to lie down at 3am but seems to have problems accessing the bed)

He does for me, even without UOP installed. I'm actually there right now (in my current game), because I was waiting for Methredel to show up to give me TABE. It's 3:30am, and Amusei is standing around looking clueless. If I wait 3 hours, he goes to bed, as expected. See my original schedule post: in the IC he sleeps proper "thiefy" hours, 6am-noon, rather than the "average guy" hours he kept in Leyawiin and Skingrad (which might help explain why he was always getting caught :P). If you think he's doing something special at 3am, he COULD be (trying to steal food from Ancus, for example, though he doesn't actually eat (more trivia for you)), but sleeping isn't it.

  • Also, the bedroll in Leyawiin remains unused because of ???

If I wait during the times he should be sleeping, he's consistently asleep when the wait finishes - and then gets up. Wait another hour, same thing. (and same with or without UOP). If I select him and do a "moveto player", which generally does a good job of kicking the AI, THEN he'll go to bed and stay there.

My guess is, his Wander package is "stuck" on. It's higher priority that his Sleep package, and set to run 24 hours a day. I'm never 100% sure about almost anything to do with the AI, but this sort of priority screwup is typical for Bethesda: they barely QA the main questlines, let alone what an NPC does when he's not "supposed" to be interacting with the player. This is probably what's causing your Waterfront problem as well. I SHOULD have the same bug there that you do, but the AI is so buggy anyway that they may be cancelling each other out.

  • Yep, I moved the packages into the correct order, added that as a mod, and reloaded the autosave from my last "Wait" (2:30am in Leyawiin) and he immediately went nighty-night. Waited another hour, and there wasn't any bouncing around: he just stayed asleep, like he should.

So basically it's the usual truckload of Bethesda bugs. In fairness, his AI is more complicated than most NPCs, and all the crucial parts of it mostly work, which by their standards is a huge success.

At least you've got all sorts of funky details now, and examples of multiple new ways they can screw up even the simplest things, which will probably come in handy the next time someone has to try and figure out why something isn't working.  :P

Okay, first things first (I decided to start with the Misdirection/moving to Skingrad-bug). I have a save right before the start of Misdirection, but I can't get the lizard to leave Leyawiin, no matter where I am in the quest. Probably because of the "return to your bed in Leyawiin"-bug that you mentioned. Seems like this bug is fixed by the UOP but in the unpatched version, he will never move to Skingrad. I'm not sure how you managed to find him in Skingrad, though - and watched him return to his bed in Leyawiin at midnight. I can't make that happen at all. He just wanders around near the statue in Leyawiin (his bed is gone so no sleep) and makes no attempt to go to Skingrad. So that bug note could read (roughly):

  • Amusei was supposed to move to Skingrad at the beginning of the Misdirection quest and sleep on the bedroll behind Ambroise Canne´s house. Unfortunately, his Leyawiin sleeping package is still active, which which causes him to stay there instead, wandering around near the statue.
  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

I "managed it" because the save was with UOP installed, so he'd correctly stayed in Skingrad after being teleported there. Removing UOP at that point and then going to Skingrad to look for him right away meant he hadn't got round to leaving yet.
The UOP note is "mostly correct", since he at least stays in the right CITY, even though his sleeping is still broken. Maybe Rob will fix it for them next time he's bored. The bug description is technically incorrect though: he DOES move to Skingrad - he just doesn't STAY there. So:
  • Amusei moves to Skingrad at the beginning of the Misdirection quest, hiding out behind Ambroise Canne´s house. Unfortunately, he still thinks his bed is in Leyawiin, so he will immediately head back there and spend his days wandering around near the statue.
  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Well, I am tempted to use the f-word here, because I just can't get him out of Leyawiin at the beginning of the Misdirection quest, no matter what I try. Your latest suggestion for a bug-note might be correct, though, as there is no way for me to actually test if he moved to Skingrad when I triggered the quest - and then just teleported back to Leyawiin the moment I left the house of the Doyen. Nevertheless, I will try to get a second opinion on this (and all the other Amusei-stuff), just to make sure we do this right. --Krusty 08:49, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Other way around. :) He TELEPORTS to Skingrad, then WALKS to Leyawiin from there. Although it's correct, I don't know exactly how meaningful it is to anyone, because it isn't possible for anyone to SEE him in Skingrad other than by using console commands or MAYBE Fortifying your speed into the multiple-hundreds range. You CAN see that it's true though by being Really Crafty: since you must be in Bravil to start the quest, you're on his route, so you can run towards (NOT fast travel to) Skingrad and meet him on the way. :D --Aliana 09:19, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Haha, you probably thought I wasn't going to test that last suggestion? Well, I took two runs to Skingrad - and no Amusei. Then I took one run to Leyawiin and found him at his usual spot near the statue. I think that proves it; if he really is in Skingrad at the beginning of the Misdirection quest, it is impossible to ever experience it in the unpatched game. --Krusty 11:23, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
On the contrary, I was EXPECTING you to test it - I know what you're like by now :P, and hoping you would, because I'm in the middle of something else and don't have a suitable savegame for it anyway - I'd have to redo at least Adharji's Heirloom, and I think Elven Maiden as well. ("CAN" should have been "SHOULD be able to" though, since I hadn't verified it). I think that even if it IS possible to experience it, the chances of doing so are so close to nil (without using the console or etc) that it really isn't relevant in any way except pedantry. --Aliana 12:07, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for spotting that, but the text is a long way from finished and is merely functioning as notes - for the sake of my own sanity over this buggy NPC.
