Stage 105[edit]

As a Thieves' Guild member, you will fail to get the proper ending journal entry of 105, because the check for it incorrectly looks for a "Silver Staff" instead of a "Steel Staff" in your inventory. Either find a Silver Staff to pass the check (it won't be removed), or fix Yak gro-Skandar's topic "Lucan's Shipment", response "Expected Lucan...." — Unsigned comment by 115.134.28.27 (talk) at 02:34 on October 1, 2011

Not that anybody's checking back on this nearly 11 years later, but I experienced the same thing. Even though I was in the Thieves Guild, I got the stage-100 journal entry.
I was already the Master Thief when I first met Lucan, and I got the stage 15, "I met a fellow guildmember..." journal. I agreed to help him, and got the stage 25, "...give me 100 septims..." journal. I turned the weapons in to Yak and he accepted the set that Lucan gave me. After I turned the weapons in, I got the stage 100 journal, "...help a couple of honest traders".
I looked in the Morrowind.esm that I have, and Lucan seems to give you the same set of weapons (steel shortsword and staff, silver flameblade and war axe) for stage 20 (player not in Thieves Guild) or stage 25 (player in Thieves Guild). Yak still has two different versions of his dialogue. The one that gives you stage 105 has a check that the player is in the Thieves Guild, and also wants the silver staff. The one that gives you stage 100 does not check that the players is in the Thieves Guild, and also wants the steel staff. I'm guessing that since the stuff I had matched Yak's stage-100 tests, I got the stage 100 journal. (Interestingly, both Yak's stage 100 and stage 105 dialogue add 5 points to the player's Thieves Guild reputation.)
I don't know if this was different in an earlier release of Morrowind. Maybe Lucan used to give you a silver staff instead for stage 25, or maybe he was supposed to do that and somebody forgot. I am on PC, 1.6.1820 (Morrowind + Tribunal + Bloodmoon, bought from GOG in spring 2022). I am also playing under OpenMW 0.46 on Linux, rather than morrowind.exe on Windows. 73.185.239.90 08:59, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
