Merge (moved from original Legends:Concept Art page)[edit]

The contents of this page doesn't really match the definition of concept art. Legends art assets are implemented directly in the game, they aren't done for concept work. We've already been adding images such as these to Legends:Pre-Release Content, and I don't see why we shouldn't continue doing that. —Legoless (talk) 14:51, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

The name of the page came from a suggestion in Discord 'cause I wasn't sure what else to call it. Some of them are concept art (the ones explicitly labeled as such on the page), but not many, admittedly. Most of them aren't pre-release images either, though. For the most part - once I get around to uploading them all - it'll either be non-card art found in the game (like the deck art, and I'll be uploading the "concede" art) or else there's a ton of cool art in the files that either: exists in the game but we don't know what it is yet, might be for a future card at which point it'll be renamed if needed, or doesn't actually match anything (like one image I found that appears to be an earlier version of "Knife to the Throat".) I think that there certainly should be a page to showcase the neat art, though. Maybe we could just title it "Miscellaneous Art" instead? ~ Alarra (talkcontribs) 02:22, 24 June 2017 (UTC)
Or just LG:Art, I guess. —Legoless (talk) 02:43, 24 June 2017 (UTC)
Naming these art images has been difficult for me, I did like a suggestion on discord being "Promo Art" for some images. Regarding the concept art, I suppose there technically isn't really any concept art, or otherwise all of them are, but I get your point. I suppose Pre-Release Content holds the art that was supposed to be used for cards, but was changed before release, am I right? Or does it include other art as well? I've found a lot of art that was used/posted before the release of the game, but does that make them pre-release (should those be named as such and/or should they be added to that page)? A lot of those are simply used in the game as it is.
Nevertheless, I think separate pages for different kinds of art would be a good idea, a simple "Legends:Art" page could potentially become bloated, no? ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 00:20, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Some system, huh?[edit]

Hello, friends! This page is nice, but it is just a big gallery now. I'm proposing to make some classification for images using headers.

  • Interface images
    • LG-art-Arena.png
    • LG-art-Concede.png
    • LG-art-Defeat.png
    • LG-prerelease-Heroes of Skyrim.jpg
    • LG-art-Levelup.png
    • LG-art-Original Load Screen.png
    • LG-art-Victory.png
    • LG-art-Khajiit Avatar 02.jpg
  • Arts and sketches by illustrator
    • LG-art-Expert Atromancer concept art.jpg
    • LG-concept-Khajiit Avatar 03.jpg
    • LG-concept-Khajiit Avatar 04.jpg
    • LG-art-Lesser Fireball.jpg
    • LG-concept-Orc Clan Captain.jpg
    • LG-concept-Orc Clan Captain 02.jpg
    • LG-art-CRDL 01 822.png
    • LG-art-Sorcerer's Mail.jpg
    • LG-art-Troll.jpg
  • Art used in-game
    • LG-art-CRDL 01 065.png
    • LG-art-CRDL 01 068.png

These two images are using for Arena conditions "You have encountered a powerful mage who starts with extra magicka" and "The battlefield seethes with mystical power, give both player extra magicka". //LG-art-CRDL 01 654.png Legends:Cheydinhal Conscript, also Arena condition "A gladiator is ready to face you" with this card. //LG-art-CRDL 01 647.png — well, it's look like AI portrait for Hilltop Giants (The Fall of the Dark Brotherhood campaign) //LG-art-CRDL 01 791.png — It's already described :)

As for another images, I think square are using as illustration for Arena conditions, and rectangular can be AI portraits or arts for card that not made and released yet. (For example, red-scaled argonian was "An enemy gat drop on you, and now it is Sly Marshblade.) So, if you seen some of these images in the game by youself or in streams or videos, please write here what they are illustrate.--Hedera helix (talk) 23:00, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

That's a good idea; I agree. As far as the arena ones, when I made the page/added the images, I wasn't aware that that's what those images were from, but now as far as I'm aware each such image is used for several different conditions. Ideally we'd prefer to create separate pages for the conditions (if they're basically unobtainable support cards) and put the image on that page instead of here, and add info about potential conditions to the Arena pages - we just need to get people to play the arena and document it! :) ~ Alarra (talkcontribs) 19:30, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Image Categorization[edit]

I've been apprehended by Ilaro in the midst of categorizing images into Category:Legends-Art-Nuare Studio. He brought to my attention that among a number of freelancers, Legends art had also been created by another five organizations as well as freelancers who're as many as there are grains of sand on Earth. While Ilaro contended that the Nuare Studio category was redundant; I contend that if we know who these six organizations are, then we can place their art into their own categories and place all freelancers' artworks into, say, Category:Legends-Art-Freelancers. Ilaro has, on the other hand, argued the categorization idea could be repurposed to be a category including images directly from artist websites, at, say, Category:Legends-Art-Illustrater Artworks. I believe that the idea of notating artists was Alarra's; I've been springboarding off her idea in this. Here's my initial idea of what to do with the list of artists that Ilaro's given to me:

  • Category:Legends-Art-Atomhawk Design
  • Category:Legends-Art-Concept Art House
  • Category:Legends-Art-Darkmatter (? Screen name for a freelancer?)
  • Category:Legends-Art-Freelancers (name pliable)
  • Category:Legends-Art-Lemon Sky Studio
  • Category:Legends-Art-Liquid Development
  • Category:Legends-Art-Nuare Studio
  • Category:Legends-Art-Opus Artz [sic]

I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on the categorization and notation of artists (for examples, go to any image here and click on the cardname under "File Usage"). Ilaro has also made a suggestion regarding notation of artists, which is to place them in the Card Summary template—a suggestion which, at the first glance, I'm inclined to agree with. Again, this process is open to input, so your opinions would be appreciated. Fullertontalk﴿ 08:54, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

Leaving a reply that this is true. I would argue to just throw everything on one pile named Category:Legends-Art-Illustrator Arts and specify in the Summary which artists the arts comes from and where it is found. --Ilaro (talk) 09:07, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
I really don't have a preference about categories, but I agree that adding something to the card summary template is a good idea. Perhaps directly under the image, or at the bottom? ~ Alarra (talkcontribs) 19:38, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
So we currently have two issues:
  1. Categorization.
    1. One proposal is to place images in categories according to artists.
    2. Another is to place images sourced directly from artists into their own category.
    3. There's nothing stopping us from doing both; these aren't mutually exclusive systems and if both are acceptable then I will proceed.
  2. Notation of artists
    1. One proposal is to place it in the card infobox. Benefits of this is that it's as simple as placing artist=Nuare Studio into the param calls. The detriment is that it detracts from the fact that the infobox contains game info only at this point.
    2. The other is to place it in the Notes section. Benefits of this is that it's simple and direct and lends itself to instant action rather than waiting for templates and conditions.
Opinions and consensus would be appreciated; it's not difficult to fall into the wikiist's trap of inaction. Thoughts, Legends editors? Fullertontalk﴿ 06:13, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
