Cannot enter ruin, fix?[edit]

"If you move away from Neloth before he opens the front gate, he will enter without you, thus locking the gate and disallowing you any further progress." I fast travelled to Raven Rock after killing the Reavers outside to sell my loot and when I came back Neloth was gone and I couldn't go in. I tried entering the chamber using the console and then putting Neloth there, but the quest objective wouldn't advance and I couldn't advance it with the console. What do I do? Is there some way I can restart the quest with the console? (Starwarsguy9875 (talk) 11:56, 11 February 2013 (GMT))

Ok, I got passed it by advancing the quest with the console (Neloth just sat around in the first room though), then giving myself a single activation cube and getting the rest by myself. Too bad I didn't get to hear Neloth's dialogue though, oh well. I've heard it before in a lets play. — Unsigned comment by Starwarsguy9875 (talkcontribs) at 12:49 on 11 February 2013

This Can't Be Right[edit]

Alright, When i reached Nchardak after Neloth (i had some quests to do in Skyrim first) he attacked me as soon as he noticed me and my follower (Serana if it's signifigant at all) I checked and had no bounties in Solstheim. When I retaliated against him and his health was depleted, he shrunk to the ground in stumble mode and started his quest dialogue, but when he got back up he became hostile again, for no obvious reason. If i wait long enough or dismiss my Vampire follower, will he stop do you think? GreyWolf (talk) 17:04, 13 March 2013 (GMT)

Neloth Attacks With No Reason[edit]

OK, we got the first four cubes with this Neloth guy without any problem. Then we went to the aquaduct, I lowered all three bridges, put the cube into the control pedestal. Before going on, I saved my game and quitted.

This morning I reloaded the game to continue, but as soon as game is loaded Neloth becomes hostile and starts attacking. What strange is; if I reload a previous save, the same thing happens, Neloth immediately turns hostile! I normally would use my voice of emperor power but I already used it hours ago because possessed citizens of Raven Rock started attacking Serena (my follower) after I cleansed the Earth Stone.

Even though I am a mage, I don't have any calm spell because I never needed it. Please help me. Main quest of my game is broken :( Schlingel (talk) 08:16, 8 August 2013 (GMT)

Answer to my own question: I ignored Neloth and proceeded to the fifth cube while Serena was keeping him busy (both of them are unkillable so it is no problem). I retrieved the fifth cube and turned back. By the time I reached Serena and Neloth, I realised that I could use Voice of the Emperor again and so I did. Neloth calmed down and didn't attack me even after the effect of the power wore out. Now we have uncovered black book... I hope he won't turn hostile again. After getting into Nchardak, Neloth won't unlock the first door in the reading room[edit]

He starts his quote but he is just spelling the first phrase "You can see the book right there." Then he wanders at the center of the room.

Tried to fus roh da, reload saves (even before taking the quest), wait, restart the game, kill him, TCL through the gate but he won't follow, nothing works :( hi i have the problem to :(

Maps?[edit]

I wish there were maps in walk-throughs like this. When it says “Head up the ramp to the main control pedestals” it doesn’t do you a lot of good if you forget where the main control pedestals are.

Found all four cubes, but only had 3 at the boilers[edit]

I experienced the bug currently documented as "You may retrieve the first four cubes, but will only have three in your inventory." In my case, it might have been due to a problem with Neloth giving the cube he had back to me.

After I found the fourth cube and came back into the Aqueduct, I think Neloth took the cube from the control pedestal he was waiting by, and started walking back towards me. Some more dwarven automata showed up and we both fought them. Neloth ended up falling into the water during the fight. I jumped into the water (to look for loot) and swam up to Neloth while he was still in the water. I think he had a line at that point to the effect of "here, I'm giving you the cube I had", but I didn't get the notification that anything had been added to my inventory. Maybe the handoff didn't work because we were both in the water?

When we got back up to the boilers, I started three of them with the cubes I had, then stole one of the pump-control cubes off of the balcony just above the boilers, jumped down, and used it to start the fourth boiler. That allowed the quest to proceed normally.

I didn't think to try pickpocketing Neloth to see if he still had the cube in his inventory, after the suspected failed handoff.

Is there a way to open the underwater grate in the Aqueduct?[edit]

In the lowest level of the Aqueduct, at the east end of the main room, there is a grate with several vertical bars. It blocks access to another few feet of hallway. Is there a way to open this grate?

Looking through the grate, there doesn't appear to be anything interesting in the area east of it - just some partially-collapsed stone. But there might be a chest with twenty flawless diamonds back there. :) I tried using the three bridge control pedestals to raise and lower the bridges in various combinations, but none of them lowered the grate. I also looked around underwater and above water for a lever or other actuator that could open it, and didn't find anything.

It may not open at all. It doesn't look like the curved grates in other parts of Nchardak that can be retracted with a cube, and it also doesn't look like the "spears that drop into the floor" grate found in other Dwarven ruins. It mostly looks like the fixed wall panels that hide pipes and gears in Dwarven hallways. 73.3.56.178 09:29, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

PS Solution - Moved from Article[edit]

I moved the following solution for the inactive control pedestal bug from the article. It seems likely this is a convoluted version of the fast-travel fix.

If this happens on the door leading to the last cube, the following steps worked on PS4, although some steps may not be necessary, such as reinstalling: Save while in the aqueduct. Uninstall, then reinstall. Reinstall all CC content. Leave the dungeon. Take boat to Skyrim. Take boat back to Solstheim. Walk to Nchardak, the door won't open. Fast travel to Raven Rock (Turn off Survival if necessary). Fast travel to Nchardak. You should be able to enter the dungeon, and place the cube which leads to the final cube.
