All five Nords[edit]

When I read you are supposed to kill off five of the Nords, I immediately wondered "so there are more? Perhaps I can spare Bujold in order to both do this quest and Retake Thirsk?"

But it appears the five Nords are all there are at the Retreat. Why then say you need to kill five of them? Why not say "kill them all"?

I've changed the phrasing to say "kill all five" as a compromise. Regards CapnZapp (talk) 10:41, 18 December 2012 (GMT)

Actually, there's another two - they can be found brainwashed at the Temple of Miraak. I'm assuming that if the main questline is completed, then they might show up at the camp as well. — Unsigned comment by 86.137.54.96 (talk) at 14:24 on 4 February 2013
yes, i had to defeat 7. Dragonalumni (talk) 11:19, 17 February 2013

Rieklings may follow you whether you ask them or not.[edit]

I completed this quest for the Rieklings, and became their king, but never asked any of them to follow me anywhere. Nevertheless, more than once in my later travels on the island and the mainland, I have looked back to find one to three Riekling warriors trotting along after me. They've popped up in dungeons -- where they fight quite well -- in the open field, in the Battle for Fort Greenwall (Imperial side), where they ran along the walls making a mess of the Stormcloak archers, and most amusingly following me around in Whiterun and Solitude (fortunately they don't attack anyone, and everyone seems to pretend they aren't there). There are no dialog options for them, and so I can't dismiss them. 174.6.51.17 10:52, 19 March 2013 (GMT)

Is happening to me, except currently all the extra Rieklings are Riekling Warriors. No dismissal options. Grelaria (talk) 01:29, 20 April 2013 (GMT)
Thank you both for the confirmation. I've updated the status of the bug on the article. Robin Hood  (talk) 01:37, 20 April 2013 (GMT)

Bilgemuck Bug?[edit]

Twice now I've encountered a bug when returning Bilgemuck to the chief. He just goes in and out of Thirsk's front door over and over again. I've had this happen on an old, bloated game, as well as a fresh, new game where this was one of the first quests I did. I thought it was related to the Ultimate Follower Overhaul mod, but I removed that and still had the issue. Might be worth documenting on the wiki page. 174.47.45.3 14:36, 29 July 2013 (GMT) TheChristoph

Are you trying to bring Bilgemuck inside the hall? He's supposed to be led into a pen near the forge outside. —Legoless (talk) 15:03, 29 July 2013 (GMT)

Supposed 'Bug'[edit]

I have to question the assumption that the 3 Rieklings that appear after this quest are caused by a bug, rather, I would argue it serves as a reward, as I've noticed they spawn in a similar fashion to a random world encounter every now and then when you enter combat- you can actually see them just appear on the spot, if you're lucky enough. These three warriors then assist you in battle, and then, once the final enemy is killed, they seem to just disappear again.

I really don't see it as a bug, rather the Rieklings are just coming to the aid of their new Chief. I propose that this is more applicable to the notes section, than the bugs.MadAndyD (talk) 13:29, 2 August 2013 (GMT)

Random rieklings showing up outside dungeons in Skyrim is a bug. —Legoless (talk) 13:44, 2 August 2013 (GMT)
In addition to what Legoless said, if you've specifically avoided having them follow you and they show up anyway, that too makes it a bug. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:22, 2 August 2013 (GMT)
No it does not. As the other person said its part of the quest reward. It had nothing to do with "not choosing for them to follow you" they DONT follow you, they help you kill an enemy on solstheim then you go on your way. I never use creature followers but they appear and it's not bothersome at all and certainly was specifically done by Bethesda. It's not an accident it only happens if you did the chief quest not otherwise.

Yes, they only show up if you've done the chief's quest, but it completely violates continuity to have rieklings pop up out of nowhere when they're not following you in the first place. My suspicion is that it's something to do with making the rieklings spawn inside the mead hall during the quest, then they just keep spawning wherever you go, but that's only a suspicion. I can't find the source of the problem (or reward) in the CK as yet, so I can't really confirm anything either way. The fact that they sometimes do have dialogue to dismiss them and sometimes don't suggests something's wrong here. Unfortunately, I don't have a game in a good position to test anything right now, but I'll see if I can find an older game and figure it out for sure. Also, I don't consider any followers to be a reward, I consider them to be a curse. They're always in your way, you're more likely to kill them than the creature you're attacking, and most of them completely prevent you from sneaking, since they have no such skills themselves, making them a much bigger nuisance than a help. Given that there are no other quests which force permanent followers on you if you don't want them, this almost certainly is a bug. Like I said, though, I'll keep looking into it and see if I can figure anything out. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:44, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Well, I've tried for most of the afternoon to reproduce the bug and I can't. They're simply not appearing for me anywhere I go, whether because there's some other prerequisite that I haven't done or because the random chance is just failing me every time. The fact that the code to spawn them isn't obvious also suggests that this is not intentional behaviour, but of course, code can be fairly obscure in the CK sometimes, so that's not absolute proof that it's not intentional. At this point, I'm giving up on finding the problem, either in-game or in the CK. If any PC players happen to get these random popup rieklings in the future, it would be really useful to know their RefIDs (the ID that pops up when you open the console and click on the rieklings in question). You can search in the CK about DLC2RieklingRescuer, it's them and it's a reward for being chief.Mudcrabrider (talk) 16:34, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
It appears that DLC2MHRieklingHandler is the quest for them. It has coding for counting how many appear, if they are still alive, etc. Its a little too complicated for me to read in the cs, but it does appear to be an ongoing reward until the limit of dead is reached. Wont appear[edit]

So after i did the quest, i went back to the hall and there were no rieklings the entire place was empty inside out, any workarounds? 70.181.86.222 02:08, 12 August 2014 (GMT)

Can't Talk To Them[edit]

I found them but when I press A Theres No Dialogue Option — Unsigned comment by 81.151.50.79 (talk) at 15:08 on 27 August 2016

Who is 'them'? You can't talk to the rieklings and after a certain point you can't talk to the Nords. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 14:17, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
