Are Ash Hoppers Rare?[edit]

Are Ash Hoppers rare? I have never seen a single one in my game.Wrath425 (talk) 07:50, 17 February 2013 (GMT)

No not particularly, but they only will appear in the ash fields in southern Solsthiem, once you hit grass you won't get them. The woods north of Raven Rock are a good spot to look, they tend to be in open areas of ash, not in the trees, try searching along the paths in the ash fields. Also they're a lot stronger then they look and swarn you in groups of 3-10 Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 07:55, 17 February 2013 (GMT)
If you want to find some guaranteed spawns, go to the Old Attius Farm where you first meet Captain Veleth and look for a small island off the coast nearby. Three ash hoppers rise from the ash to attack you when you climb the hill on this island. 98.204.42.6 17:16, 12 May 2013 (GMT)
I had never seen any either before coming to Solstheim. And even then not when wandering the outer circumference such as when looking for All-Maker stones. However, once I needed to walk from Raven Rock to Ashfallow Citadel (for "Served Cold"), then they were constant. Must have encountered a good half-dozen in the last hour, mostly alive, though one was riddled with arrows before I found it-- presumably two random encounters stumbled into each other and the Ash Hopper lost. -- Emma Emma of Falkreath (talk) 03:27, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Scrib species?[edit]

It does not feel correct to have the Species categorised as Scrib, as nothing else indicates any relations to the Kwama. (Scribs are stated in TES3: Morrowind as the larval form of the Kwama.) What is the source of this categorisation? —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:50, 31 July 2013 (GMT)

The game data lists the species as scrib. There is no leeway here. Jeancey (talk) 06:53, 31 July 2013 (GMT)
Darn me! I would have liked to see a "sic" or something there, as it just do not feel right. —MortenOSlash (talk) 07:17, 31 July 2013 (GMT)
But it isn't wrong... they do look like scribs. They could, conceivable be scribs, but the "ash" version or something. Jeancey (talk) 07:36, 31 July 2013 (GMT)
And thus suddenly aggressive, not having paralyse and not growing up to be kwama? Though I see your point, I am a bit disappointed. :-/ —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:02, 31 July 2013 (GMT)

Removed Bug[edit]

I just removed the bug about Ash Hoppers making no attack sound - an ingame test showed they do. Several sounds appear to be unused in the CK, it may be they are used in another way (or the game has a way to get some default sounds). Anyway, I think it is not useful to go hunting in the CK to find new bugs. If they don't cause problems with gameplay, they probably aren't bugs to begin with. And bugs should never be confirmed by the original editor, even if it seems to be an obvious bug. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:10, 25 February 2014 (GMT)

Another reliable spawn location (unconfirmed)[edit]

Just east of Hrodulf's house, and North-Northeast of the reaver boat is a chest with two skeletons next to it. The chest is just south of a stone wall. I think this is a guaranteed spawn point for at least two ash hoppers. I put unconfirmed in the title because someone else should confirm that the chest shows up with the Ash Hoppers in their game. That way, we know it's not a random encounter. (Sorry I'm not logged in or anything. This is my first post. ~DJ_JsinJ) 200.30.218.22 05:06, 1 February 2021 (UTC).
